Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows - Part 1 - 2 (Ch.7~13)

7. The Wedding

 

Luna : Oh, I’ve interrupted a deep thought, haven’t I? I can see it growing smaller in your eyes.

Harry : No, ‘course not. How are you, Luna?

Luna : Very well. I was bitten by a garden gnome only moments ago.

Xenophiliusi : Gnome saliva is very beneficial! Xenophilius Lovegood. We live just over the hill!
Harry : Nice to meet you, sir.

Xenophiliusi : I trust you know, Mr. Potter, that we at The Quibbler, unlike those toadies at the Daily Prophet, fully supported Dumbledore during his lifetime and in his death support you just as fully.

Luna : Come, Daddy. Harry doesn’t want to talk to us right now. He’s just too nice to say so.

(중략)

Harry : I didn't even know he had a brother.

Muriel : Well, Dumbledore was always very private, even as a boy.

Elphias : Don't despair, Elphias. I'm told he's been thoroughly unriddled by Rita Skeeter in 800 pages, no less. What has it that someone talked to her. Who knew the dumbledore family well. Both you and i know who that is, Elphias.

Elphias : A monstrous betrayal.

Harry :  Who are we talking about?

Elphias : Bathilda Bagshot.

Harry : Who?

Elphias : My god boy. She's only the most celebrated magical histroian of the last century. She was as close to the Dumbledore as anyone. Oh, I'm sure Rita Skeeter thought it well worth a trip to Godric's Hollow to take a peek into that old bird's rattled cage.

Harry : Godric's Hollow? Bathilda Bagshot lives at Godric's Hollow?

Elphias : Well, that's where she first met the Dumbledore.

Harry : You don't mean he lived there too?

Elphias : The family moved there. After his father killed those three Muggles.

 

잘 안 들렸던 대화입니다.

대화도 중요하지만, 루나의 아버지인 Xenophiliusi가 하고 있는 목걸이도 주목해 주세요. 삼각형 안에 동그라미와 직선!

또한 버틸다 백셧의 등장!

 

Gnome : 땅신령

saliva : 침 타액 

Toady : 아첨꾼, 알랑쇠

despair : 걱정

Take a peek : 몰래 엿보다 (여기선 캐묻다로 해석했습니다.)

 

I can see it growing smaller in your eyes.

 

직역하면 '그것이 너의 눈에서 점점 작아지는 게 보인다'로 해석이 됩니다만, 영화에서는 '눈빛이 그래'라고 번역했네요.

깊은 생각에 빠져있던 해리를 루나가 깨움으로써, 깊은 생각(it)에서 빠져나왔다(smaller)로 해석하는 것 같네요.

 

 I'm sure Rita Skeeter thought it well worth a trip to Godric's Hollow to take a peek into that old bird's rattled cage.

 

영화에선 '리타 스키터가 고드릭 골짜기까지 찾아가 노망 난 할망구한테 캐물은 게 틀림없어'라고 번역했습니다.

뒷부분인 to take a peek into that old bird's rattled cage를 직역하면, '늙은 새의 덜컹거리는 새집에 들어가 몰래 엿보다'가 될 것 같습니다.

어떻게 저렇게 되는지 잘 모르겠네요.

 

 

8. A Place To Hide, 9. Kreacher's Tale

불사조 기사단 기지에 숨은 해리포터와 친구들, R.A.B가 시리우스의 동생임을 알고, 크리처를 통해 진짜 호크룩스를 가져간 사람을 추적합니다.

 

Harry : To the Dark Lord. I know I will be dead long before you read this... I have stolen the real Horcrux and intend to destroy it...

Ron : R.A.B. was Sirius’ brother?

Hermione : Yes. Question is, did he actually destroy the real Horcrux?

(중략)

Kreacher : Before Master Regulus died, he ordered Kreacher to destroy it. But no matter how hard Kreacher tried, he could not do it.

Harry : Well, Where is it now? Did someone take it?

Kreacher : (nodding) He came in the night. He took many things, including the locket.

Harry : Who did it? Who was it, Kreacher?

Kreacher : Mundungus. Mundungus Fletcher.

Harry : Find him

 

앞 장면은 죽음을 먹는 자들에게 공격받는 장면입니다. 헤르미온느 대사 중에 볼드모트를 직접 언급(볼드모트 이름에는 추적 마법이 걸려있습니다)하는 바람에 위치가 노출된 거죠.

세 친구들이 몸을 피한 곳은 불사조 기사단의 기지! 그곳에서 R.A.B가 누군지, 진짜 locket을 가져간 사람이 누군지 알게 되었네요.

 

 

10. Theft of a Thief

 

Mundungus : Bleeding gave it away, didn’t I? There I was, flogging me wares in Diagon Alley when some ministry hag comes up and asks to see my license. Says she’s a mind to lock me up and would’ve don't, too, she hadn’ taken a fancy to that locket.

Harry : Who was she? The witch, Do you know?

Mundungus : No I... Well, she’s right there Look. Bleeding bow and all.

 

hag : 쭈그렁 할망구

 

flogging me wares

 

flogg가 장형 태형으로 나와서 의아하실 텐데, 영국식 표현으로 '팔다'라는 뜻입니다.

ware도 사전에는 안 나오지만, 길거리에서 파는 '물품'을 의미합니다.

즉, flogging me wares는 '길거리에서 물건을 팔고 있었다'가 되겠죠.

 

가져간 사람이 하필 엄브릿지네요.

저 사람이 가져가서 파괴하진 않을 테니, 찾으러 가야죠!

 

 

11. Ministry Interior , 12. Secrect Files, 13. Lifting The Locket

잠입은 폴리주스로 변장하기!

크게 어려운 문장은 없었네요.

마법부에 성공적으로 잠입하여 엄브릿지의 사무실을 들어갔지만, 불사조기사단의 파일(Secrect File)을 확인하는 것 외엔 수확이 없었습니다.

이후 청문회장에서 만난 엄브릿지 목에 locket이 있음을 확인하곤 가져오는데 성공!
